Dumbells Stunt Growth?
I want to start lifting 10 pound dumbells. I already do pushup on a daily basis so my triceps are well defined but I have puny biceps… I’m 18 years old. 19 In 20 days and I was wondering if I start lifting 10 pound dumbell everyday will it hurt my growth process? I heard weightlifting stunts you growth… I’m 5’9 and not very tall will weight lifting hurt my growth and can I grow taller naturally over time?
Thank You for answering,

No, lifting weights will not stunt growth at any age. This is a myth that somehow persists though there is simply no medical or scientific evidence to support it. Exercise is nothing but benificial to good health. The only bad exercise is the one that is performed incorrectly.
If you were trying to powerlift and you were 13 yes there might be some growth issues but being 18 you won’t have a problem-as long as you’re older than 16 you’ll be ok strength training. Hope that helps!
lifting weights at too early an age at too high a weight can close off the growth caps, but, when I was in middle school I started lifting 10 lb dumbells so it really shouldnt be an issue, if you are eighteen, you will generally stop growing in a couple years, it is possible that you grow more over time, but not very likely
