I am not sure of the costs but the procedure is carried out a good deal in Japan – where height is considered an important part of someone’s social and business standing. As such you might do well to look at prices there – certainly not thrid world surgeons – but perhaps more experienced then ones in other countries.
Oddly enough there was a film (cannot recall which) that had the main character go through this – and it was pretty much spot-on for accuracy.
In short the bones are broken sometimes both below AND above the knees, the bones are then tapped and fitted with metal rods which then link "the two halves" together again.
Every so often, you turn the little adjusters a minute amount (perhaps a tenth of a mm) and wait for the muscles / skin / sinews / nerves / ligaments to lengthen. Ultimately, you of course allow the bones to knit back together again.
More than that I do not know – but good luck in your persuit of your goals – and try a bit of a look at Japanese specialists.
Kind regards
Mark
You know, my cousin is 3, and she has hemihypertrophy (sp?)
it’s where one half of your body grows at a normal rate, and the other half grows faster or slower. in her case, her right side is smaller than her left. she has to wear lifts on her right shoe. currently, her right leg is 2 cm shorter than her left. she has to have the leg lengthening surgery to help prevent internal complications. she has been referred to a dr. in maryland, although there is one in detroit, mi. my aunt went to a consultation in detroit per her insurance co’s request, but she did not like that dr. the one in maryland has done some shows on TLC, and is supposed to be the best in the country. i dont know any of the names of the dr.’s, but if you go to tlc.com, you may be able to find the one in maryland.
i dont know much else to help you, except to tell you that my cousins disease has caused all her internal organs to be 2 diff sizes, too, and that is part of what will be helped by this procedure. i mean, think about it: all the organs that occupy both vertical sides of her body are two diff sizes. i dont know what kind of physical problems you may be facing, or if you just want to be taller. with hemihypertrophy, you have kidney problems, bladder problems, etc., along with a very high chance of developing tumers (cancerous).
