I know that you grow based off of genetics, but I was wondering if your body grows based on the activites that you do. Exercise make bones strong and hard, does that make it harder to grow taller? I am 16 years old.

i am 16, i am 5ft 9.7 inches, my dad is 5 10 and my mom is 5 6, i grew about 1 inch in the past year!
all my uncles are over 6ft
i want to grow about 3 inches more
what exercises would help for posture or to stretch your bones

I am 14 and have a large ribcage, but a thin waist. I am underweight compared to the rest of my peers and friends (5’7” tall and 90 pounds) but I am not anorexic or anything, I am just naturally thin and have a great metabolism. However as I’ve grown older my ribcage has started getting bigger, but it looks really gross because you can see where all of the bones are and stuff. It makes me look pretty abnormal because of my thin waist and large ribcage. A lot of people tell me that I should eat more to make it look even, but no matter how much I eat I don’t gain weight. (I am actually a total chocoholic and I eat a lot of food.) I need to wear a bikini in two weeks and I would like to make my ribcage look smaller so that my stomach looks nice. What can I do?? Hello. i recently turned 17, am around 140lb and 5’11 feet tall.

I do have a fair bit of knowledge on this subject area, but obviously i’m not a master, so i just want to ask a few questions to fil in the gaps so i can make the most of my work outs and get bigger (which is obviously my gain :3)

1.I drank 2 scoups of maximuscle progain for 6 weeks and gained 4 kilos, but it was all around my stomach. REAALLLY flabby stuff there haha. presumeably the carbs had done that. I was working out 3 times a week while taking the supplement. I want to know that if i were to take maximuscle proMAX instead..which has barely any carbs and is mostly protein…would i still gain weight but not around my tummy?

2.I’v been at a great gym for nearly 4 months and do see some progress. My muscles appear more defined, but i swear i’m not ‘bigger’. It makes no sense. i lift the heaviest weight i can and do chest and arms one day – back and shoulders the second – and legs on third. so its all even ish. why arent i getting bigger? (i eat a lot, not as though i’m purposely trying to force feed myself though)

3.my bones are naturally thin. so looking at my arms for example, yes you can see a clear defined bicep etc, but the arm itself is relatively small. will keeping to a hard routine sort of make my bones grow. maybe not grow..but my arms appear bigger? (sorry to make it awkward)

if anyone could help me on ANY of the issues i’d be grateful!

OK, so I’m 14, five foot 7 and weigh 126 lb and i started to work out two weeks ago but I stopped about two days ago. I did this because i have heard so many story’s of kids who work out when their young and then lifting stuns their growth which leads to a person to stop growing but I’m not sure if thats true. My doctor said that I will grow to be about 5 foot 10 based on statistics. some people told me that working out will make your muscles bigger therefor making it difficult for your bones to stretch which makes you grow and that if i were going to be 5 foot 10 ill only be 5 foot 8 or 9 if i work out. My wrestling Couch told me that is a myth and that you will grow taller if you work out because of an increased testosterone level. I don’t do squats with weight on my back, dead lifts because they stun growth . The exercises i do are
upright rows,-150lb 3sets 12 reps
d-bell and barbell curls,-30 per arm 4sets 10 reps
bi curls,-30lb 3 sets 12 reps
flat bench,-100lb 5 sets 10-12 reps
calf raises,- 100lb 4 sets 30 reps
military press,-50lb 3 sets 8-10 reps
dips,-body dips 3 sets 8-10 reps
side and front lateral raises,-15-20lb 3 sets 10 reps
reverse curls, -25lb 5 sets 15 reps
pull downs, -70lb 4 sets 12 reps
pull ups-body only 3 sets 10-15 reps
and upside down sit ups 3 sets 30 reps
I do all these exercises in 4 days of the week by splitting them up in to categories .
I eat three meals every day and some times a little more, a lot of protein. I have seen great results and their still coming. . My plan is to stop and only go like once a week and then continue 4 days a week in the beginning of 11th or 12th grade, I am currently in the middle of 9th grade let me know if you agree with me or another opinion of what i should do.If you guys think that i should stop working out let me know and why and if not let me know if there are any exercises you guys see in my list that are bad for the spine or that stun growth, i really want to get at least 5 foot 9. If i get taller that means i naturally will get bigger muscles Because but only if i eat correctly as i am now. Any additional info will be very appreciated, sorry this was so long by the way.

I know milk helps cause of your bones and stuff but im lactose intolerant. Ive never had the lactose free milk but im not sure if i’ll get sick from it because i havent had any type of dairy in a while.
so what can i eat or drink to help me grow taller?

It is possible with leg lengthening Surgery but there is a downside so you can do it by force!!!

so I know that’s it’s impossible to grow your bones after you growth plates are fused together, but i heard stretching could help you built space between each vertebra and therefore technically grow taller. Has anyone do this and seen result? ..if you haven’t even tried doing this don’t even respond, because you’ll prob won’t be that helpful.

Hey, I’m a 17 year old asian guy who’s 6′ tall. My ideal height is 6’4", but I’m not certain whether I can reach that height…according to my doctor, I’ve got an inch or two left in regular growth. She said that guys don’t stop growing till 21, or when they start shaving the facial hair on their cheeks. My cheeks are still smooth, so I guess my growth plates are still open, though I’d need a test to confirm that. According to this site, http://www.betaller.com/growing-taller.htm , item #5 apparently stimulates your body to produce more human growth hormone naturally. Is this true? Does such a stimulator really exist? I asked my doctor about it, and she discouraged any form of human growth hormone, whether directly taken or indirectly through a stimulator. But then again, she’s an old school sort of doctor – what she knows is rock solid, but she won’t really touch the newer stuff. If she’s right, apparently it’s just not in my asian genes to get to 6’4" without some sort of enhancer, and that foriegn human growth hormone – whether directly taken or indirectly with a stimulator – always has some sort of possible negative side effects (like overgrowth of your bones). I read that such side effects definitely do exist with taking human growth hormone directly, but I also read that no negative side effects exist with stimulators. I understand that early neutering before the growth plates have naturally closed will make the dog grow taller than it would naturally because the plates are open for longer.

So does EVERY dog that has been neutered early grow like this (taller, possibly narrower even if it’s not that noticable) or is it just a possibility?

im 13, and a girl. i really really really want to be a runway model when i get older. but sadly im only a 5ft 3in. i know you cant change your genes or put implants in your bones. is there any food or exercises i can do? and dont say stupid things like "wear tall shoes!"

I saw this on the Oprah show. The surgery looks very painful! They surgeons cut part of the bone out and put bolts into the legs that are suppose to stretch the remaining bones and make the legs longer. The patient is out of commission for a few months and the surgery costs between , 000 – ,000 dollars! And how does "height determines success" in Asian countries when probably 95% of the Asians there are short? It’s a common thing there. There are not a lot of Yao Mings there. He’s actually kind of rare. Whatever happened to being hired because you had a smart brain, and why are so many people in the world so superficial? Even Lisa Ling couldn’t understand it and she’s Asian. She did the report on it.
The show was on Asians doing this. That’s why I spoke on the Asians doing it. This is not the first crazy thing that they have done, they also used to wrap women’s feet to keep them small. In some places in Asia, they may still do that. And I know that Americans do equally crazy things too, but that’s not the point. Most Asians tend to be short and that’s just the way it is. They say the surgery is for success, but I think it’s just a superficial thing. It’s just like how many Asians are trying their best to look like White people. They’re even getting surgery to change their eye shapes!
That’s not what I meant by mentioning Lisa Ling. You took that completely out of context. Lisa did the report, and as an Asian American woman who has had much success in life in her shorter size, could not understand the obsession that some Asians had on getting taller to be "successful".

I was just wondering if he is? I am doing a little reading, but I found something really hard to believe. It is said that Erickson was able to make a man grow taller with hypnosis. I don’t think this is possible, but I am not saying it is *impossible*. I decided to do some research and found that every cell in our bones replace them selves the same way we grow. I have also read about hypnosis involved in things like mole removal, cancer, and pain management. To be fair really we don’t see many hypnosis studies about these kinds of things, how can we say it’s impossible? I don’t like to under estimate the power of the mind. I have read a lot of placebo studies and found them intriguing. pretty interesting to be honest. I don’t know though, just wondering If Milton Erickson is a reputable hypnotist?
