If you know someone that you think is on the unhealthy path to an eating disorder, what would you be looking for to confirm it?
I am not sure if this is anorexia or an ED. The girl in question has always been naturally skinny/thin even as a child, had to be forced to finish meals, always been a picky eater, stayed the same weight since she was 19 (she is 25 now) even though she’s grown a few inches taller in those years. Her BMI is in the underweight category though not morbidly so (BMI of 17.5). Takes a very long time to eat each meal. Prefers substituting a meal with milkshakes if she can. Carefully avoids junk food but eats anything with a high carb content (rice, pasta, noodles, etc.) and cannot do without milk/curd daily. Occasionally has fainting spells/light headedness (esp. around period time). Does not always feel hungry and can go for hours without eating. Lives by choice a very sedentary lifestyle.
However she does not check for calorie content and does not check her weight. The half-yearly weighing check-in is all she knows of her weight, which does not fluctuate too much and has not left the mark it was on five years ago.
She is not interested in food and would rather do without it and often does until she loses energy and blood sugar drops so low that she faints and becomes nauseated.
Why so little interest in food?
Hey!
Just to start of, I’m 5’5 and about 92-93 pounds and fourteen years old. I don’t think I have an eating disorder because I DO eat! Please tell me whether the following information given makes you feel I have an eating disorder or not! This is an example of what I eat: *I don’t eat the same thing everyday!
Breakfast:
Weetbix w/ soyamilk and a few dry fruits
Lunch:
Noodles, pasta, rice, or bread with a few veggies.
4:30 Snack: Soyamilk with fruit
Dinner: Rice, veggies and some sort of protein.
Around 1400-1600 calories.
I do not eat ANYTHING (not even a single chip) in between…I’m not sure why but I don’t.
I eat between 1/4-1/2 cup of uncooked rice for dinner and my soyamilk is around 200ml in the evening.
I don’t exercise that much but I climb a lot of stairs at school…and by that I mean quite a lot. I walk as much as possible and sometimes I try to fit in a 3km run. I have stopped having my periods since around 8 months and have lost around 8 kgs. It’s not much but I guess I was sorta NATURALLY thin to start with. Everytime I lose weight, I don’t feel like increasing at all! But when I look at tall, slim girls I start to say to myself "Eat right for the next couple of years and grow tall, then go on a diet" I say that almost every week but after eating my dinner, I have to work off the calories one way or the other. My friends keep telling me how skinny I am but they themselves look skinnier to me. I know that I’m skinnier only because they weigh about 10 pounds more. But when I look at myself, I only see fat thighs. I like the upper part of my body but my legs look so fat! My mom is constantly worried about my eating habits but I don’t think I need to because I do EAT! I’m not afraid of food! I just don’t eat junk (AT ALL-I literally mean NEVER, atleast at my own will) unless my parents or family force me. I’m eating…am I still at the risk of an ED? I want to be 39kgs. When I reach there, I will just maintain for a while and then come back to about 42-43kgs. But right now, thats my goal. I just want to know what my body will look like!
Btw, how many calories does 1/2 cup of uncooked rice have? I’m so worried right now ![]()
Thanks a lot!
<3 <3
I didn’t have an extreme eating disorder, i just dieted and because i exercise a lot i lost about 15 pounds in 4 or 5 months. I was already under the normal weight (naturally), but then i got into the unhealthy percentile. I was just wondering if i will still grow because i want to get taller and i haven’t gotten my period yet. Also when i lost weight my boobs got smaller and i want them to grow! thanks for the help ![]()
I know its kinda long but please read. Ill give everyone a thumbs up and ten points to best answer.
The book is about freshman kids who realize that high school can change a person and that friendships don’t last forever. Their stories are told from a third person point of view and their
lives are revealed throughout the book.
Spencer Jerry, a 15 year old girl who people secretly envy for her exotic beauty is five foot five, very thin(due to a secret eating disorder), has long straight black hair with a streak of blonde in the front. She’s naturally tan and has a "Punk" laid back style. Even though Spencer is pretty, she doesn’t act like it, for she is not self centered. She’s very calm and is friends with everyone due to her witty and fun personality and is known to make everyone smile. Spencer knows that she can get any guy and feels she needs a challenge. Later on in the book Spencer makes a bet with her friend Cady Renolds that she can get any girl. After Spencer wins the bet by getting Tara Morgan to fall in love with her, Tara finds out it was just a bet and goes back to being home schooled. Spencer soon realizes that she actually did like Tara and becomes bi-curious. Spencer then goes on with life and secretly falls in love with a new girl at school but doesn’t tell anyone for she knows being gay is frowned upon in her community.
Cady Renolds, a 14 year old girl, who is best friends with Spencer although she is very different from her. Cady is an inch taller, has pale skin, blonde hair, blue eyes, and is known to be the "typical american" She is quite boy obsessive even though she’s never really done anything with a guy but doesn’t tell anyone that. She’s fairly smart and tries to follow in the steps of her sister Carmen who is the most popular senior in school. Cady has a "preppy" style. She goes through life acting care free but honestly cares about every single detail in her life. early on in the book, Spencer grows tired of Cady due to the fact Cady always cares about her appearence and overly obsesses over the male race. They soon make up which results in "The Bet". Short after Spencer wins the bet, Cady catches Spencer kissing her sister, Carmen behind a tree and approaches her yelling, "The bets over, what are you doing!?" Spencer then confesses to Cady that she has true feelings towards girls which leaves Cady depressed feeling like their friendship was a lie.
Tara Morgan is a 15 year old female who is open about her sexual perference. She is known as "The Lesbian" but has no problem with it. She has shoulder length jet black hair and a laid back personality. She falls in love with Spencer Jerry but finds out Spencers feelings towards her aren’t real and are just a bet. After finding out, she goes back to being home schooled and is rarely ever mentioned again in the book.
Miranda Wise, a 16 year old girl who has failed the ninth grade and is repeating it in a new school.
She’s the "new kid" who people find akward due to her looks. She’s 5 foot four, has shoulder length hair that is dyed a pinkish red. She has a lip ring, and a tattoo on her lower stomach. Spencer sees miranda and falls quickly in love with her although they have never met.
Ben O’Connor is 15, tall, and "Every girls dream." He’s on the varsity football team and likes Cady. After hanging out a few times, they get into a deep conversation which Cady reveals that her best friend, Spencer, is gay. Ben finds this attractive and asks to meet Spencer. Cady introduces them and Ben is determined to get Spencer. After ditching Cady for spencer, Cady thinks spencer is trying to steal Ben from her. Resulting in another fued between them. Spencer then remembers that Cady knows her secret and does everything in her will to suck up to Cady. Cady then tells her that the only way she’ll ever forgive her, is to admit to everyone that she’s gay herself, or else Cady will do it.
So does this sound okay so far? I’ll have more characters but this is it so far. I’m tired of reading books about a bunch of rich, spoiled 18 year olds. Like Gossip Girl and stuff. So I decided to write a book about freshman teenagers who deal with everyday life. So what do you think? Would you read it? Do you have any suggestions for characters or anything?
I know its kinda long but please read and answer. Ill give thumbs up to every answer an 10 points to the best.

So I decided to write a book about freshman teenagers who deal with everyday life. So what do you think? Would you read it? Do you have any suggestions for characters or anything?
Ok, so I think I probably have ED NOS, or eating disorder not otherwise specified because I’m not underweight (13 year old girl, 5 feet tall exactly, and 98-99 pounds, though I usually just say that I’m about 100 pounds), and I have never thrown up or taken diuretics.
I’ve been restricting my calorie intakes for a while, though. Three or so month ago, I was only eating 700-800 calories a day for about a month. I realized that was really unhealthy for me, though, so I increased my calorie intake to 1200-1400 calories a day, and I’ve been eating that much for about a month and a half.
I think my body may still be in "starvation mode," and that my metabolism is still messed up, because a lot of people say teens naturally need more calories because they’re still growing, and I believe that because I haven’t had my period in three months (which is one symptom of anorexia). I want to increase my calories so I don’t gain weight, though; most anorexics trying to recover need to gain weight, but I’m happy with the weight I’m currently at.
So far, I’m planning on eating more calories through healthy foods, like apples. I think apples are really good, because they are high in fiber and have lots of water in them, which will help my digestive system and help me "go to the bathroom." Is this a good tactic? Any other advice on how to eat more to fix my metabolism without gaining TOO MUCH weight?
Also, how long will I take? I know it’s a slow and delicate process, because most people go back to their eating disorder ways after their first "recovery," but I really want to get my metabolism back to normal, and also get my menstrual cycle back; I’m pretty sure I want to have some children in the future, and I don’t want to ruin that oppurtunity because of my stupid decision as a teenager.
know it’s kinda long but please read and answer. Ill give thumbs up to every answer and 10 points to the best one. So if I ever did write a whole book, would you ever consider reading it based on the character descriptions? And I’m open to suggestions about other characters to make?

Spencer goes on and wins the bet by getting Tara Morgan to kiss her. After the victory, Spencer soon realizes that she actually did feel something when she kissed Tara and is confused as to whether or not she likes girls. Spencer then goes on with life thinking that what she was going through was just a phase, but soon finds out it’s anything but when she sees "the new girl". She falls quickly to think she’s in love with the new girl, but only time can tell how spencers feelings will unfold. Spencer doesn’t tell anyone though, for she knows being gay is greatly frowned upon in her community.
Cady Renolds, a 14 year old girl, is best friends with Spencer although she is very different from her. Cady is an inch taller and has a naturally built body frame but is not fat. She has pale skin, blonde hair, blue eyes, and is known to be the "typical american" She is quite boy obsessive even though she’s never really done anything with a guy besides hugging. In which Spencer looks around in fear, shrugs, and replies, "I think I’m…gay." Spencer then confesses to Cady that she has true feelings towards girls which started after she won the bet which leaves Cady depressed feeling like their friendship was a lie.
Tara Morgan is a 15 year old female who is open about her sexual orientation. She is known as "The Lesbian" of the school but has no problem with it. She has shoulder length dark brown hair and has a bubbly personality. She falls in love with Spencer Jerry but finds out Spencers feelings towards her aren’t real and were just a result of a bet. After finding out, she goes back to being home schooled and is rarely ever mentioned again.
Miranda Wise is 16 year old girl who has failed the ninth grade.
Being given the nickname the "new kid", she’s 5 foot four and has shoulder length hair that is dyed a reddish color but has a faded pink tint to it. She has a lip ring, and a star tattoo on her lower stomach. Spencer sees miranda and falls quickly in love with her although they have never really talked before. Miranda tells everyone that she has transferred to this school to "Get a new start." and "Start her freshman year again in a new school." But the truth is that she was kicked out of her old school for a drug addiction which she never tells anyone about at her new school. Her secret is soon found out when Spencer goes to a group addiction center for her obsession to be thin and spots Miranda there in the drug addiction group.

Later on in the book Spencer makes a bet with her friend Cady that she can get any girl to like her. Cady, thinking that she’ll win this with flying colors, agrees to the bet.
A week after Spencer wins the bet, Cady walks home from school to find Spencer spying on Carmen getting undressed . Cady is in complete shock and questions, "What the hell are you doing?" In which Spencer looks around in fear, shrugs, and replies, "I think I’m…gay." Spencer then confesses to Cady that she has true feelings towards girls which started after she won the bet which leaves Cady depressed feeling like their friendship was a lie.
Ben O’Connor is 15, tall, and "Every girls dream." He’s on the varsity football team and likes Cady. After hanging out a few times, they get into a deep conversation which Cady reveals that her best friend, Spencer, is gay. Ben secretly finds this attractive and asks to meet Spencer. Cady introduces them and Ben is determined to get Spencer. After ditching Cady for spencer, Cady thinks spencer is trying to steal Ben from her. Resulting in another fued between them. Now that Cady knows spencers secret, will she reveal it to everyone?
